Allison Mackley is the Vice President for Education at Berks Nature.
From 2021 - 2022, Allison held the position of Director for Curriculum Development at Elizabethtown College in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. From 2007 - 2021, she was the National Board Certified School Librarian, K-12 Library Department Coordinator, and Instructional Technology Coach at Hershey High School in Derry Township School District (library website). In addition, she has fourteen years of middle school English classroom teaching experience.
She is a curious educator who partners with colleagues to support students in navigating their ways through our digital age global society. She developed and taught an online elective course called “Passion Driven Research.” Allison served as the faculty advisor for TEDxYouth@ChocolateAve that celebrates student voices in the community. She also served on the district’s Professional Learning Committee. She was named a 2017 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year finalist.
Allison was an American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Region 2 Board Director (19-20) and serves as a past-president of the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association (PSLA). During her presidency, PSLA was awarded the 2019 American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Affiliate of the Year Award. (news | blog). She is appointed to the Pennsylvania Department of Education Governor’s Advisory Council on Library Development. (PDE | profile) As an advocate for libraries, she was selected as a member of the ISTE Librarians Network Leadership Team (ISTELib) (19-21), and she co-founded the Pennsylvania Library Association PA Forward Information Literacy Summit (PA Forward). Allison was chosen for the inaugural class of the American Library Association Leadership Institute: Leading to the Future. She has committee appointments in the American Association of School Librarians and the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA). In addition, she serves on the Hosting Solutions and Library Consulting (HSLC) Board of Directors.
Allison is on the Penn State College of Education Alumni Society Board of Directors (20-22) and the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Teachers Advisory Committee (PTAC). She is a 2010 Keystone Technology (Integrator) Innovator (PAECT) and volunteers as the technology advisor for a central Pennsylvania land trust, the Manada Conservancy.
Allison is a presenter and speaker who has also published in professional journals. She has received several honors including being named the 2019 AASL Social Media Superstar Leadership Luminary and earning the 2018 Pennsylvania Library Association Best Practices Award for teen library programming. Her curated "Tech Tools & Resources - AASL Standards Framework for Learners" has been shared widely on social media. She is an adjunct instructor at Wilson College where she teaches “Humanizing Online Learning,” (blog | course) as part of their Master of Educational Technology (MET) degree program.
Allison holds an undergraduate degree in Secondary English Education from Penn State University, an M.A. in Writing from Northeastern University, an M.L.I.S. from the University of Pittsburgh, and an M.S. in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. Allison also earned a graduate certificate from the University of Pennsylvania Virtual Online Teaching (VOLT) program and holds a Pennsylvania Department of Education Online Instruction Program PK-12 Teaching Endorsement.
